Description
Many of the Ohlins suspensions are high pressure monotube type shock absorbers. The fluid is put under gas pressure and the gas and the fluid are kept apart by a separating piston. HD 145E and HD 146 Ohlins Sportster shocks are designed with the fluids fixed directly on top of the shock absorber. HD 142, HD 144, HD 907, HD 908 and HD 852 shocks have a piggyback reservoir where the fluid is stored that is connected with a hose that helps with better cooling of the fluids to give a longer life of the components. The gas and oil do not mix in the emulsion type shock and is pressurized by nitrogen. This pressurization prevents cavitation of the fluid and the shock absorbing action is therefore more even. The HD 145E and HD 146 Ohlins shock have adjustable preload of the spring action where as the HD 907, HD 908 and the HD 142 allows the rider to adjust the ride height as well as the preload. The HD 852 and the HD 144 also permits the individual to adjust the rebound and the compression damping.
